It is nearing...

I am now entering my 33th week. Everyone around me is pretty excited about the arrival of my boy, Ian. My gynae said that Ian will weigh somewhat like Nicole when she was born...a whopping 3.64kg. I am still teaching as per normal and will officially go on maternity leave in mid or last week of Aug.

I did not stock up on baby items like my friends who are getting ready for their first child, probably because Ian is not my first so I am on a more relaxed mode.

I am trying to do as many things I know I cant do after I pop. Catching up with the latest movies at the cinema, going for walks and enjoying sea breeze at ecp, eat my favourite food, catch local production musical 'Into the woods', picnics and flying kite sessions with Dearie and Nicole.

Ok, gotta get back to work now...catch up later...

Sick yet again...hate this feeling...

Just two weeks ago, I saw GP for lung infection...I could hardly breathe right. My Ventolin inhaler doesn't help at all. I was put on antibiotics diet for a week. I thought I will get better but I am wrong...I am coughing badly now. My phelgm is thick and green and I have a bad sore throat. Sigh...I guessed the multi-vit my gynae prescribed is pretty heaty. Still thinking if I should see the doc once again...I have spent so much on medical bills.

It hasn't been easy. I have been dead busy ever since the school term begins. My responsibilities at work seemed to have doubled ever since the first-teacher i/c of choir left for a year to do her further studies in Canada. I am now put overall i/c for choir. There are many other things I need to settle and do before I go off for long paid leave. Healthwise, I am not getting any better. The only thing that kept me going is my no. 2 (I am in my 16th week). I do not know the gender yet...I will only know on 15 April. It is apparently a tough journey for me ever since I found out that I am pregnant. Complications like bleeding, high blood pressure, heart palpitations, lung infection...anyway, I just hope everything will be smooth sailing and that both baby and I will be fine.

I hate myself for having to put up with good-for-nothing people like my BIL. I am still waiting and praying hard for a flat so I can eventually move out. He was especially rude to me and even raised his voice at me. Being at home was supposed to be the safest place, but not for me...there was once he sheepishly open my bedroom door and peeked into the room when I was in the room with Nicole and Mark. Totally uncalled for...I mean why didn't he knock on the door? I got so angry that my privacy was invaded. When I told MIL what he did, she just brushed it aside and said he could be looking for his brother who was still sleeping by the way. He could have just knocked on the door and called out his name right? Why must he do it in a perverse manner? I mean what if I was changing then? He would have seen it all right? Freaks me out totally... I am telling myself if he ever do so again, I will report to the police immediately.

I just wish the minister holding the portfolio of housing will not stand for election or given the seat in parliament (don't wanna name him here) He has done a terrible job at it and because of him, people who are desperately seeking for a house to live in gotta wait terribly long for a desired flat.

Wow Kotex Bloggers Party

Eileen and I attended the launch of Kotex's new product jointly organised by Kotex and omy.sg at Heaven's Loft, Orchard Central on Saturday. This was my first time at an event like this. Initially, I was feeling a little uncomfortable with photographers wanting to take pictures of us, but soon got the hang of it. I would like to thank both Kotex and omy.sg for organising such a wonderful event for bloggers. We girls sure had a marvelous time!

We arrived at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal at about 1pm. The taxi ride there was unbelievably slow and torturous but yet we managed to survive.

Spinal Surgery

I am recuperating well at my mum's place after a spinal surgery. It was a key-hole surgery to remove my prolasped vertebrae disc which was largely pinching on my nerve root. To be exact L5 S1 that was where exactly the slipped disc was.

The surgery took place on 7 May 2010. It was supposed to be scheduled on the 5th but the hospital called a day earlier to inform me that they were having a bed crunch situation. I thought to myself...ha!

Why is this the first time I have ever heard of such a situation? Well yes, it did. So I agreed to the later date rescheduled by the hospital.

And so I was, there at the hospital...day surgery centre at 9.30am as told. The nurses drew blood for further tests, measured my blood pressure and made sure I had no fever. I waited. Only to realise that there was no bed at my desired ward. I waited patiently...painstakingly. You know how it is like when you know you are about to go under the knife but it isn't ur turn yet....

It was almost 1pm. By then, I was feeling weak and hungry from the fasting. I heard a faint call....my name being called. yes! My turn is up next. And I was being brought to the 2nd floor where the operating theatres are.

Dressed in the surgery suit, lying on the bed, shivering too because it was freezingly cold, the anesthetic doctor (he is cute!) came to introduced himself. He asked me a few questions just to make sure this isn't my first time going for GA. He wanted to make sure that I do not have side effects after my GA surgery. He reassured me saying that surgery will be a success because I think my words slurred when I replied his questions...he could sense that I was a little panicky!

A nurse also made sure that I am who I am... Then she suddenly popped a question and asked if I am from CHC. I told her yes and immediately she told me she recognise me after looking through my records. She even logged on to my facebook profile just to make sure she has got the right person! And yes, confirmed the right one after she read my status.

Next moment, I was wheeled in and being transfered onto the operating table. I couldn't remember anything after I saw the anesthetic doctor put the gas mask on me and injected something into me.

When I woke up, I was in the recovery ward. I didn't feel any pain because I was still feeling sedated with the anesthetic. I think I must have been in that recovery ward for more than an hour or so.

After having moved back into the ward, my mum was there already waiting. Mil came next, followed by Maria. She bought chee cheong fun for me. She also came with grapes and a bag of famous Amos cookies n said that was for mother's day. Thanks girl! You are indeed thoughtful. Next came, Eileen then mark...then Conz with Gilbert, and mastuty n her hubby. Thank you friends for being there to visit me.

Quick Update

I will be going for a spine surgery this Wednesday. Hope everything will turn out fine and I will be discharge the next day. I dislike staying in the hospital especially when there are old ladies surrounding me in the same ward. Just can't stand the noise they make...

The surgery procedure is going to be a keyhole surgery and the surgeon will take the slipped disc out of my vertebrae. Doc said if everything is well, I could go back home the next day.

Pray for me to be in good hands during my surgery...Thank you!

I have a Slipped Disc

The next time you have lower back pain....think again! It might not be just a normal back pain but it could be a slipped disc...sounds scary right?

yes, let me relate to you what happened to me...

I remembered I was playing games - floorball, with my colleagues after staff meeting on Thursday. I was trying to save the ball from going into the goal post. However, I didn't realise I had overstretched myself while trying to save the ball. I felt the little pain on my back but I thought it is just normal so I ignored. Little did I know, this pain grew and the pain went down my butt one week later. I saw the doctor and he gave me a jab to ease the pain. After that jab, I did, however, felt better.

The same pain tormented me, and I thought it was just a sprained and it will go off eventually. I was wrong. I could feel that this pain went right down the leg later that week, and I could basically feel my muscles around my leg went into spasm.

I woke up in pain that very morning, my right leg in spasm and I felt my veins pulling. I tried standing up, the next thing I know, I was on the floor. Thankfully I fell on Nicole's mattress which was right next to my bed.

Dearie sent me to the same doc I last saw for the back pain. The doc immediately referred me to SGH, saying it wasn't safe to wait any longer.

And there I was at SGH, did my x-ray, and after careful examination, doc diagnosed that it is a slipped disc. He ordered that I should stay at home and rest for the next 6 days, gave me strong painkillers. He also warned me that if I did encounter incontinence, I must go straight to A&E.

I did what I was being told, tried not to walk around too much, only out for a meal or two.

I was admitted on Wednesday because the pain was excruciating. The doc gave me 3 jabs of painkillers in total. I was kept there under observation and was later discharged to go back to rest in bed for another 10 days. I just had a physiotherapy session with the therapist and will go back for another on the 8 April. My MRI scan at Camden medical centre is scheduled on Tuesday 6 April.

Understanding Slipped Disc

With adult having some 80% chance of getting back pain at some point in their lives, who hasn't complained of an aching back? How many people have experienced the sudden pain of "throwing one's back out?"

In most instances, back pain is simply the result of unusual exertion, fatigue or a twist or sharp movement, but occasionally, there has been an injury to the spine and medical attention is required. A slipped disc is one such common injury to the spine. It can be extremely painful, and may damage surrounding muscle and nerve systems. If pain is very severe, if it persists or worsens when you lie down, if it travels down your leg or if numbness sets in, then a doctor should be consulted.

Despite the common name - "slipped disc", it doesn't really "slips" out, rather the gel-like material in the centre of the disc bulges into the spinal canal. A slipped disc is also known as a pro-lapsed intervertebral disc (PID), herniated or ruptured disc.

A disc is a small mass of elastic, gristle-like tissue. Located between each vertebra in the spinal column, discs act as shock absorbers for the spinal bones. Thick ligaments attached to the vertebrae hold the pulpy disc material in place.

Why do disks herniate?

Occasionally, a single excessive strain may cause a slipped disc. However, disc material degenerates naturally as we age, and the ligaments that hold it in place begin to weaken. As this degeneration progresses, a relatively minor strain or twisting movement can cause a disc to pop out of place.

Certain individuals may be more vulnerable to disc problems, and as a consequence may suffer herniations at several places along the spine.

What are the symptoms of a slipped disc?

Extreme, sudden pain is usually the first symptom. Since most herniations involve the bottom two discs in the spinal column, the pain usually begins in the lower back. The bulging disc in this location exerts pressure on the sciatic nerve, and sharp pain may follow that nerve all the way down the leg and into the foot. Pressure on this nerve may eventually cause numbness or a "pins and needles" sensation. Over time, the surrounding muscles can weaken and shrink in size.

Discs can also rupture at higher levels in the spine causing pain and weakness in the neck, shoulders and arms.

Even if the initial pain subsides, it is important that the condition be diagnosed and treated in order to prevent further damage.

Two Car Accidents in 2010 and not counting!!

I met with two car accidents so far from the start of the year 2010. One which happened just last month, weeks before the CNY. A taxi crashed into the rear of my car as I was turning right to Pioneer Road. I made a third's party claim and had my car repaired at the workshop...and all's well until just last Saturday, I met with another.

I do not know if I am down with luck or what...but why must it always be me!??!! This time round, I was driving along bendeemeer road. (winding road due to the massive construction of the flyover) I was in the centre lane turning at the bend...all of a sudden this car on my right coming from the back crashed and scratched my car. She should have gave way to me since I am ahead of her but she didn't. She can't even gauge the size or length of her car I supposed because it is a relatively new car plate starting with SJV..immediately I slowed down and got dearie to take down the idiot's car number. She who happened to be a P-plate (driver who just passed driving test), actually ignored me when I wound down my window to signal to her to follow me and stop by the road to discuss about the claims. She appeared shocked and totally ignored my hand signals or my calling out to her and drove on....

HIT AND RUN!

Damn! I should have followed her if I'd known she would be driving away and running away from the consequences... Too late anyway, I have reported the matter to the police...and the police advised me that I shouldn't worry to much about it and that the officer said the lady driver would most likely be punished because she has just committed a road traffic offence - hit and run! I was told to call traffic police on Friday if I wanna know what actually happened to her.

I have to spend $ to get rid of the scratches and chipped off part on the side rear. My heart ached badly when my car has scratches and dents as a result of these stupid brainless careless drivers...

When choir ends at 4pm..I have to make my way down to trevose to teach piano. Lesson will only end at 6.30pm. Then gonna meet citibank guy at 7pm just to hand in my form B1. After that, make my way to clementi for dinner and pick nic up. Long day ya? hmm...gonna be busy tmr...so I will sleep now. Night!

post. Yes, I am back with a vengence! ha! I have been busy with piano students' exams, my assignments, school's lunchtime performances, students' music projects, etc. Enough said, here are some pictures of what sums up last month's happenings.

Kudos to both Dearie and I for having brought two kids, both Anthiel and Nicole out for a day of window shopping at Suntec City and having a meal at Astons Specialties. It was a great feat for both of us because this was the first time we had to take care of two kids instead of one. I must say if I was any older or weaker, I think I wouldn't be able to catch up with Anthiel because she is one active child! haha! Nevertheless, I enjoyed the experience and time spent. I also discovered that Nicole was pretty jealous when we showed our attention on Anthiel.

I met Eileen after my lecture to countdown to her big day. We didn't know where to go but somehow settled at clarke quay because we thought that was somewhat the most happening place. Eileen treated me to nice hotdogs (can't remember the name of the stall) before we headed for drinks at Marrakesh: a Morrocan Lounge and Bar. Thank you for the wonderful message in the postcard. Thanks for being such a wonderful companion and most constant friend to me!

I find it therapeutic just by looking at these pretty plants. After a hard day at work, the first thing I will wanna see is my terapin, blinky and these pretty plants.

I bought another two of these from Ikea. The other two which I bought from the cck nursery died because of the lack of sunlight - I had placed those pots along the floors of the corridor but because they were too small, couldn't really 'catch' the sunlight.

Never did I expect someone like her would do something so unethical. At first, it was one and gradually over time, she managed to 'eat' my share. 4 of them to be exact. We all know that everyone is riding through this difficult time. Still, it isn't right of her to 'steal'! I have been thinking why I was so nice to share my t. methods with her. I felt stupid now that she has the upperhand and has 'stolen' what was mine.

I know I shouldn't be so trustworthy but who would have expected that it was her and not someone else.

Well, and to someone who really think she could hide it so well, think again....I may be 'blind', but I am still sharp at hearing and knowing what is really happening.

I am supposed to be sleeping. But due to the fact that I am one who will make a 'symphony' when I am sleeping, I would rather not. Reason is because I fear I will make my colleague who is already sleeping be awaken by my 'symphony'. So this explains why I am blogging now. It's a two-day-one-night choir bonding camp happening in the grounds of Unity. It was a day packed with bonding activities as well as a day to savour good Italian food from Pizzardone. Yeah, pizzas were freshly prepared and cooked right on the spot. The most wonderful thing is, it is EAT-All-YOU-CAN Free Flow pizzas.

My school choir has attained a Silver award for this year's SYF choral competition. It has been tough and long journey for them. With focused minds, they sang well for the set piece. However when they sang the first choice piece, This little babes by Benjamin Britten, they sounded rather sharp. The conductor tried his best to direct them using his hands to remind them to sing with support, but they failed. The second choice piece, Ma Yi La, (pretty maiden) was ok and sounded sweet. We waited for the results to be announced at 5.15pm. There were a number of choirs attaining bronze and certificate of participation. Our hearts sank. Finally, when our school's name was called and the most awaited word 'Silver' was announced, our choir screamed with joy.

Congrats once again...Uniqvoices have done a great job! Well done!

The title of this post says it all...everything seemed bleak and dark to me this particular month.

Things happened. I know and I should be grateful it did not happen to me...but still, I am saddened when I think about it.

To protect his identity, I will not post his pictures or name him.

He got married in November 2008 and lived happily together with his wife and parents. He began to live a healthier lifestyle, go for regular jogs with his wife and all. It was just yesterday, he went jogging alone, went home feeling exhausted, slumped into his massage chair in the living room and then went unconscious. His wife found him not responding to her calls and the ambulance was called, but it was too late. His heart stopped on the way to the hospital.

My heart goes out to her and his family. I know it is going to be a difficult time for them. I pray that God will bless his family and protect his family members.

I am attending the wake later in the evening.

I am collecting plastic bottles of any kind, soft drinks, mineral water, soya sauce, 1.5 ltr pet bottles, shampoo bottles etc for a recycling project in school. I must collect as many as possible to clog up CIP hours. 25 bottles for 1 CIP hour. So the next time you drink from a soft drink bottle, think of me and keep that bottle of yours!

Will appreciate if you could kindly pass me the washed and cleaned plastic bottles to me by 15 March. Thanking you in advance peeps!

Accepting Reality

I have learnt to accept reality and taken a step to embrace the changes. It's been tough but I am learning to be more prudent in my spending. I don't wish to spend on anything unnecessary and I don't wanna be overwhelmed with credit card bills at the end of each month.

With the on-going economic crisis, more workers are being laid off and the worst is yet to come. Although PM has briefly asked SPH not to over-emphasise on the situation on cases of lay-offs, I believe that there will be at least one or two workers being asked to leave their jobs a day. Imagine in the U.S, in every minute there will be at least one person declaring himself a bankrupt. This is how harsh the situation is and it is hitting at us in a way or another.

Nevertheless, I wish to thank your words of encouragement as well as your prayers for my family. I also wanna thank God for keeping my family together in this bad times. (I have heard of a sad case from a friend) I hope God will work his miracles again...

A Double Whammy

I was hit with an asthma attack yet again on Wednesday night. I saw a doctor and he prescribed me antibiotics and an extra ventolin inhaler. I also bought 48 bucks worth of Singular pills to help me breathe better when I sleep at night.

I was hit again with a bad news in the afternoon on Thursday. I won't wanna share it here...

A double whammy hit had me thinking why life is so miserable with setbacks and attacks from all sorts of things.

I am pretty down physically and mentally and I don't know how long I can survive this battle...

I am crying out....can someONE hear me?

Disappeared and Back Again...

I have a lot to write but I have too little time. It's a sad thing because my readers kept visiting a not-updated blog...yeah I know I have to do something about it. I am pretty busy with work and my studies. This semester I am taking up TWO heavy modules (The art of creativity in English & Romantic Writings) and both are worth 10 cu each. My upcoming assignment is due on 9 Feb and I have not finished reading Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice. How am I going to start writing my essay?

I had an asthma attack on Saturday. It all came suddenly after dinner at my mum's. I could hardly breathe and I was coughing badly. I hated myself for my forgetfulness as I didn't bring out my ventolin inhaler. Conz said it's life threatening which I do believe so. I have to be extra-careful not to forget my inhaler the next time I get out of the house.

Some of you may be wondering where the heck I am and how I am doing right now in my new workplace...Yeah...all is well and I kinda survived the very first week at Unity. It seemed like a long week for me (5 long days) cos I had to attend character education training, go for induction workshops, be around to help out at CCA orientation and be present at Friday evening's Parent-teacher talk session. Tired.

I have met most of the students in my music classes (sec 1s, 3T and 4T) and my EL class sec 3. It wouldn't be professional of me having to speak of my students and having to compare students of both Unity and Bt Batok, so I will not mention anything here. They are generally well-behaved.

I have many pictures waiting to be uploaded here but I have simply no time. I will certainly be back for more updates. :) So stay tuned...

This is the second time I watched a crazy Christmas concert staged by Dream Academy. I liked Hossan Leong's Retro act, the 3 Japanese girls and Sebastian Tan's part. I laughed till I teared! They were really funny! Thanks to Guat Hoon again who got these complimentary tickets for 7 of us.

My New Hairdo

I spent almost the whole afternoon there at the salon doing my hair! I was there at 11.30am and only left the salon at 6.30pm! wahahahaha! Look at all the wires around me! scary right! It shudders me when these wires were around my head! I did rebonding and digital perm. Rebonded the upper part of my hair and permed my lower half of my hair.
Total damage = $190

My curls are still tight. My hairdresser said it will take a week for my curls to loosen up and the curls will appear nicer and bigger. Can't wait...

Finally, I got to savour their steaks at Astons express. I know this is not their best, but still the steak was good and worth my money. (sorry, the pic of the steak somehow got corrupted) 10 bucks for ribeye steak with two sides to choose from. I will go try the one at Joo chiat place someday.

These pictures were taken at Sushi Tei @ Raffles City. It was already 9.30pm when we walked in. Eileen decided to go healthy so spicy seafood ramen for herself, plain udon for me and cold soba for dearie. We also ordered salmon belly and maguro sushi, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki salmon.

An impromptu lunch decision made by Tuty & I...Ruth came to join us much later after she was done at the post office at Lucky plaza.

My favourite salmon sashimi which I can't do without each time I go for international buffets! This was the first time I tried the lunch spread. I am always there for hi-tea with my colleagues.

No no, I am not a glutton...and I didn't whoop up two bowls! Ruth had the other bowl.

Oh, one thing we were kinda put off with was their service and their staff! haha...bad bad! one of the dessert chef was sleeping on a table next to us! Gosh! ugly ugly!

We were at Harbourfront shopping and we came across Christmas Decor. Nicole made me take pictures of her with these nice and cute decorations.

It's Party Time!

It was a night of trance music, drinks, dancing, bare-chested male dancers, skimpily dressed female dancers and more. They were playing trance that night, though I don't really fancy trance music, we still went ahead and hit the dance floor. It's like a zillion years since I last partied! haha! This new club is located at The Cannery, Clarke Quay (the used-to-be MOS). While queuing to get in, I asked the bouncer who owns the club...he said it is currently owned by the one who owned MOS. I reckoned he must have thought that people here needed a change.

There were many interesting acts including the hung-up overhead transparent pool above the dancing crowd where female dancers performed their slick moves in water (picture below)

Xiaoyun & Xianming, Kelly, Janice, Alison, Vincent were among the few who were there earlier. Maurice, Daryl, Dear and I went back to our home cos we have to put nicole to bed. We arrived there at 12.30am and there was still a queue outside Zirca.

Dearie & I - the first time we went clubbing together...haha no kidding! I used to go clubbing with friends but with dearie this is the first.

Last but not least, Janice who was so stunned after being grabbed hold of her face and given a peck on both sides of her face by an ang moh!

We left Zirca about 3.30am and moved on for some prata at river valley road. Reached home at 5.30am. Showered and slept at 6am...woke up 2 hours later to prepare for piano lessons! Shagged!

Eileen, Nicole and I checked out the new extension of North Point last week. We chanced upon this Japanese Food Court and gave it a try without a second thought. Food ranging from ramen, jap pizza, sashimi, sushi, omelette, rice burger and bento sets, etc. Reasonable food court prices too.

THE GEMS OF LIFE (2008)

I didn't manage to catch some of the HK casts who came down to town on Tuesday. They were at IMM. My parents who are currently watching Gems of Life caught them live. Bowie, Maggie, Lee Sze Kei and Bosco were there. Dad told me Bowie has great complexion. Woot! It's a pity my sister who was holding on to my mum's camera hp, didn't take a single pic at all...which was a waste! sigh...

I have finished watching 20 episodes out of 82! yes yes! 82 episodes altogether! I am waiting for my uncle to pass us the rest...
